Funded PhD Opportunity at La Trobe University, Australia

  • Location: La Trobe University, Melbourne Victoria, Australia
  • Type: PhD
  • Topic: Project "Theory and statistical analysis of non-Gaussian stochastic models and approximation schemes"

There is a fully-funded PhD position in Statistics, Stochastics, Spatial Data Analysis and related fields at La Trobe University, Melbourne, Australia. The scholarship is for three(possible three and a half) years, starting when a suitable candidate is found. The PhD is linked to an ARC Discovery Grant.

Description

The project "Theory and statistical analysis of non-Gaussian stochastic models and approximation schemes" is interdisciplinary. It aims to address important problems in the theory and statistics of stochastic processes and develop a new methodology for their applications. This project expects to generate new knowledge about processes on multidimensional spaces and surfaces that are used in spatio-temporal data modelling. Main anticipated outcomes include:

  • developing approximation schemes for new complex data and investigating their accuracy and reliability;
  • studying properties of nonlinear statistics and transformations of these data;
  • providing new tools to investigate complex real data, in particular, in cosmology and embryology.

The results should provide significant benefits for optimal modelling and analysis of high-resolution big data.
